Unfortunately Bonnie, if you're aiming to move up in an organization, politics plays a big role. And as you stated, ignoring it is definitely a mistake. Your work won’t automatically speak for itself. People are often hired or promoted for reasons beyond just their skills or qualifications. Having said that, it can be extremely painful and difficult to try to make nice with someone you have zero respect for.

Absolutely bang on advice Bonnie. Ignore workplace dynamics (politics) at your peril. Mel Butcher and I discussed this a little while back (yes I got very energised during the discussion!)

Ordered this new book. Congratulations. Even though I no longer go to an office, I find that the application of your wise words is also viable in the "writer for hire" culture. Thanks!

Thank you! I look forward to your feedback. I actually wrote the book in 2015, updated in 2019 but it's still relevant today!

I bought the book on Audible, because sometimes I like to read with my ears. Thing about what you put into the world, your advice and wisdom is classic and always seems relevant!

That's true, but you can still pay attention to what they do and say, especially if they are a key stakeholder.
